It also serves as a gate, a compressor, and a dedicated EQ. But ReaFIR can do more than clean up hissy signals. Most of these functions have to do with EQing and dynamics processing, both of which are typically employed in noise reduction circuitry. The company also has a line of very capable plug-ins, one of which is the ReaFir dynamics processor. Cockos is known primarily for Reaper, an excellent shareware-practically freeware-DAW that can stand toe-to-toe with the best fully-fledged DAWs costing hundreds of dollars more.

You may end up having more questions than you currently have, but you will have a better understanding of the process.Īs Sky King says above, check the classifieds for used equipment, most of what I am using is 2nd hand, as people move on to bigger and better equipment, you can often get a good bargain for the devices you need when starting out.You might find what you need in this selection of the best free noise reduction plug-ins available.

The process is well described in these excellent tutorial videos, which I highly recommend you watch.

There is is bunch of free software available to process the images from your iPhone, DSLR or planetary camera, these being AutoStakkert!3 for stacking, Registax for sharpening and Photoshop/Gimp for post-processing. However, the best method to capture images of the planets is with a dedicated camera, such as the ASI120MC or ASI224MC (my camera). With some luck and experience, it is possible to get similar quality images using a DSLR to a dedicated planetary camera. It allows you to take very good images of the planets using dedicated software and some fancy processing that only Canon DSLRs have. If you have an old Canon DSLR lying around the house, then this is a huge step up from the iPhone camera. Nothing special to be sure, but at least you can tell it's Saturn I used a similar device on my old (and since re-sold) AstroMaster 130EQ to get the attached image of Saturn. To use your iPhone, you will need to buy an adapter that hold the phone steady against the eyepiece, something like this. In a couple of months Jupiter and Saturn won't be visible at all, but this might give you some time to practice your technique. The planets are currently receding from us and getting smaller by the day, and if you are in the northern hemisphere they are also very low in elevation. There are a few things working against you right now that are out of your control. Hi Jason, there is a lot to learn here and while your camera phone might be able to provide you with some images of the planets, you won't be able to achieve the resolution and quality of dedicated planetary cameras (which is why we use them, of course).

I'm trying to cut my teeth on the software so I'm ready to tackle the hardware when it arrives.Īny advice you could lend me would be awesome !! And good luck getting MP4/H.265 into SER/32FP :-O I was also experimenting with taking high speed (240fps 720p) video but that's compressed and then I have to do transcoding which mangles things even more. I might be able to do image alignment with Pixelmator as well.

The reason I'm even considering this as an option is because P_Pro2 is UNBELIEVIBLY FAST on the new Silicon Macs!! I just got a the new Mac Mini. Not sure if that's a great plan but it will be interesting to see. I will be experimenting with Pixelmator Pro 2's ML Denoise to process the individual images then stack them. I can't find an app that will do Burst mode with RAW images so I have to tap the screen for every image. I can't find an app that makes taking lots of RAW images easy. I've been experimenting with taking LOTS of RAW images and then stacking them in "Starry Sky Stacker". The issue is how do I take good shots with the iPhone? I completely blew my "budget" on what I have already purchased so I will be using my iPhone 8 as the camera. My biggest stumbling point right now is with the camera. Orion StarBlaster II 4.5 with Equatorial mount (motorized), Plossl 25mm & 10mm, Orion Shorty 2x Barlow, Svbone 6mm goldline eye piece and a set of 7 Neewer color filters. I've purchased a telescope (probably should have stopped here first.) and it will arrive around the 10th of December. The Jupiter/Saturn conjunction was my inspiration to jump in with both feet!! :-) I've been intensely researching equipment, lenses, software, file formats, methodologies, techniques, etc, etc.

I'm a complete newbie and I could really use some advice on how to get started :-)
